I got my driving license in Singapore this month after failing the test 2 times. It was not easy for me to learn and process failure as a grown up adult. Before going for the test I wrote myself a letter to deal with the disappointment. When you came back from school and I shared the news that I had failed my test, you were very supportive of my situation. You simply said to me, 'Mumma, that's life. Get up and go on again.' This was part of the line from Frank Sinatra's song, That's life. I felt so proud at the way you motivated me. Finally, after loads of practice sessions with my old instructor, Mr. Woon who was waiting to retire after I passed my test, I did it on September 30th 2024. My test was so long, the instructor made me do all the courses in the circuit and then took me out to drive on the road. I was so proud of myself for not giving up!
The reason why I wanted to learn driving was that when I traveled with you to another country where we had to rent a car, I did not want to lose out on it. When we were in Canada in Whistler I was wondering how we will commute locally as I could not drive then. So I told myself that I must push and try to learn driving and get my license. It was a journey that I travelled and will always remember your kind words to myself.
