1st Year Cakes

We all were very excited when you arrived and wanted to celebrate every minute of your existence in our lives and home. Soon, you turned one month old. To mark the big day, we got a cake and then continued that ritual throughout your first year, every month on the 22nd.

January 22 2013 : One month old
With that cake came your first taxi ride other than the hospital visit. I took you out to buy the cake from Cold Stone in Hiroo, Tokyo. You snuggled in my lap quietly all the time. Later at home, we ate the cake and dream talked about the day when you'd be sharing a piece too. You were sweetly sleeping next to me all that time.

February 22 2013 : Two months old
The second month gave me lots of confidence in taking care of you. You loved bath time as you never cried and your first favourite toy was a fluorescent green and colourful tailed caterpillar rattle. I enjoyed dressing you up in different t-shirts and then clicking your pictures while you slept. Naani had to stop me at times from disturbing you from sleep to capture a great shot. I still managed several shots. I knew one day you'll look at all of them and smile. Oh, to add, Papa bought a brand new Pentax K30 camera just to amber your childhood days and our oozing love for you.

March 22 2013 : 3 months old
By then, it was decided that we'd be moving to Singapore soon and I was very skeptical about your first flight travel. I was so afraid of the air pressure getting into your ears. At the same time, we were sorting out everything around the house and packing. I had to leave behind a lot of your winter and new clothes as Singapore had warm climate and you grew up so quickly that most new clothes didn't fit. Since then you've been wearing clothes of the size two times your age. I felt so mushy to see the chubby you.

Farewell Japan : April 2013
Japan was very close to our hearts especially more because you were born there. We knew it was our last week there and decided to get one last cake. My friend Rie Hibino came to our place to bid us farewell and we enjoyed the cake with her. It was hard to absorb that we'd be leaving Japan for good. We were so thankful that we took a bit of it with us as we had you. Our little rising sun.

Arrival in Singapore : April 2013
Papa made sure that our journey was the smoothest and we got real VIP service the moment we stepped out of the airplane. You had successfully completed your first flight travel and the first relocation. It was time for a new start, a new beginning and a new smiling little 3 months old. By that time, you had started observing your surroundings with great interest.

April 22 2013 : 4 months old
We stayed at Ascott serviced apartments at Raffles Place for the first few weeks. It was a huge suite and we had a gigantic bed to ourselves. The staff provided us a cute little crib for you, but you decided to sleep next to me on the big white bed. We put your toys around and you napped like a little prince in those absolute white sheets. By that time, you loved to be carried around, observed all activity in the kitchen, listened to 'Mary had a little lamb...' on YouTube and became very active.

May 22 2013 : 5 months old
Naani had left for India by that time and we celebrated that milestone with your grandparents (Dada-Dadi).
Your dadaji composed a song for you - 'Aayo Ceyone Tiwari...' I felt it was a huge gesture of happiness for our little bundle of joy, Ceyone.

June 22 2013 : 6 months old
The 6th month mark was a big milestone to cross over prematurity and we were very excited when you touched that mark. By then we had moved to our apartment in River Valley, Singapore. You adapted very well to Singapore and it soon reflected in your growth and development. Every night before bed, you had a giggling riot with me. Papa secretly watched our giggles from the door so you'd not get disturbed and continued laughter melodies.

July 22 2013 : 7 months old
By that time, you had become very active. You could easily sit for 30 minutes straight and enjoyed playing with your toys. Sometimes, I put you in your crib and moved it on the casters around the house and parked it at the kitchen door. You looked happy and contended to see me within reach. As you started interacting more and more, I had surprises every other day. My days were long but months short. I loved everything you did.

August 22 2013 : 8 months old
You learned to flick the things you liked and you did it very quickly. One evening when Papa's work colleague Shunjie uncle came with his wife Dan aunty, you participated in interacting with them very sweetly. Dan Aunty was a petite lady with glasses. You stared at her adoringly and we all were very happy. When Dan Aunty leaned closer to tickle you, you instantly flicked her glasses and surprised us all. It was only then we realised that all that while you were targeting her glasses. I love the cute little prankster that you were becoming.

September 22 2013 : 9 months old
Nani was back with us then and it was time to dress you up as little Kanha to celebrate the festival of Janmashtmi. Nani brought you a beautiful kurta pajama dress and a golden crown. She bought a bigger size of the dress yet we could not fit you into the pajama. It made us smile to see you grow up well and cross your size. Whenever we commented on your well being, Nani made us do touchwood in her own special way.

October 22  2013 : 10 months old
That was the month when we had lots of mall hopping fun with you. Almost every evening after you woke up from your nap and snacked, we hopped into a cab and explored a new mall. We always carried your favourite bread and cheese which you munched on in the mall play areas. It was a great way of discovering places in Singapore and helped mumma fulfil her shopping needs. You were so absorbed in the new things you saw, the lights, the people, the shops and the babies and toddlers. I felt you recognised the world of cute little people and always paid special attention to kids and their voices.

November 22 2013 : 11 months old
That time we decided to hold your cake smash as Nani had to leave for India. Following your deep love for Thomas the tank engine, I ordered a Thomas cake for you. You seemed to like it a lot. You always pulled out the 'Go Train Go' book from the pile and gestured us to read. Thomas was one of your first loves and in turn ours too.

December 22 2013 : 1 Year Old!
There arrived the most awaited day, your first birthday. We were all SO excited. We celebrated the day with your Dada and Dadi. That time you were in love with round shaped things and tried to touch and feel every sphere. Hence your cake had lots of rounded surfaces. We celebrated your big day at home and then later had a party.

It had been the most amazing one year of my life with you sweetheart. You made me fall in love again and again and yet again. Life's so good with you.
May you grow up into a loving, handsome and considerate human being. As for me, you'll always be my little baby who slept and played in my tummy :)

Love
Mumma
