Munchkin's March 2014

Dear little Ceyone,

March 2014 had been another great month that passed away in a blink. There was lots going on in your tiny little world and you started to walk efficiently. Sometimes you even tried to glide. Another major development was your speech. Your word clarity and vocabulary was improving by leaps and bounds. Way faster than Mumma expected and could keep track.

Some of the words that you spoke at 15 months old were:

Mumma, Papa, Tita, Nana (for Naani), dogo (dog), lala (umbrella), lala (Cinderella), pani (water), hawa (wind), go, come, bye, no, da (dance), bun (Ben doggie soft toy and Hoopla kidz character), Anna (Annie), hug, wow, opun (open) - that was the key word and you used it all the time to get things your way, oul (oil), bum, ne (nail), tongue, Toma (Thomas the tank engine), tigger, pooh (Winnie the pooh), buku (book), nhau nhau (bath), shawa (shower), top (stop), tap (to tap on my iphone), ball, car, tuck (truck), diggi (digger), akan (uncle), tumma (tummy) - you often pointed at tummies in pics and babies wearing only diapers.

Once as we were walking past a lingerie store in a mall, you started screaming 'tumma tumma' after looking at the poster ads. I looked around a bit embarrassed and walked faster with a secret smile at your cute mischief :P

You could recognise and correctly pointed head, hair, nose, ears, tongue, teeth, knee.

Papa and I felt the happiness in our home with you walking around everywhere and the exponential increase in singing, dancing, cuddles, hugs and kisses. Those were really happy times. Your every milestone and accomplishment made us jump with joy.

Your love for things with wheels grew deeper.

You developed a decent interest in food and had great appetite. Baked cauliflower, zucchini and broccoli was one of your favourite veggies. You could empty the plate in no time. I was particularly satisfied with your growth and development as your doctor assured me of your exceeding percentiles. Of course it was no longer easy to carry you for long with your weight running parallel to your age.

It made me very happy when you picked up one of my childhood books to read. Amazing memories and thanks to Naani for saving the book and bringing it to us.

We started going to the Mucky Pups activity class every Friday morning. Every week, you painted some new things. It was great to receive your craft work in the next class. We brought it home and put it up on the fridge for Papa's appreciation. Here's one of your leaf tiara and a one eyed panther :)

Considering your love for dogs I organised a dog petting date for you. We visited our distant neighbours Mr. and Mrs. Bhardwaj to meet their dog Amber. You loved the exclusive time and the closeness with Amber. Watching her play with ball brought thrill to your face.

Our next play date was with cute little baby Keira who lived on the top floor in our condo. She was about 6 months younger than you. Baby Keira enjoyed exploring your toys while you observed her playing.

Mummas and babies. With baby Keira and Mummy Lynn.

A nice family picture including Papas.

Later that evening when Tita pulled up the sofa to store our linen, you decided it was a cool place and climbed inside it. We watched you quietly doing that little trick and I fetched the camera just in time to capture a shot when you were stepping out.

As you journeyed culinary explorations, your meals became more and more interesting. Here's one of your typical breakfast plates with a half omelette, deseeded cherry, happy cow cheese and parle G biscuits. You picked up eating parle G biscuits from Papa that he ate every morning with his tea.

One of the evenings Papa got the craving for Maggi Masala noodles and I went to the kitchen to prepare. Maggi was something that we had eaten through our school, college and hostel days and was one of our most favourite snack items. When you tasted Maggi, you liked it instantly. It was a bit spicy, but you loved the taste.

I followed my strategy of showing you the real objects and their photos in the books to enable your learning. One of your books had a picture of Noodles and we played the game of matching and association.

Washing hands after meals was also a fun activity. You mastered opening and closing the tap well and loved doing it over and over. We often sang the following song with rephrased words while you washed hands -

"Down in the jungle where nobody knows
there's a big fat Ceyone washing his hands
and a rubadub here and rubadub there
thats the way he washes his hands"

March 2014 was a very exciting month for another reason. You got a brand new cousin baby sister, Papa's sister Mona bua's darling daughter baby Norah. We were all ecstatic on the arrival of baby Norah in Kolkata, India. I wondered if she resembled Mother Teresa in the pic below.
When we went shopping, Mumma happily selected a cute outfit for Norah.

Baby Norah

As you were learning to master walking, we explored several opportunities to practice your walk. During our evening walks, we met the uncle who owned Lamb Cupcakery and he praised you a lot. He once told me that he found you to be a very unique child who was interested in intense observation. He appreciated you a lot and offered you a sweet Chinese roll or a fresh cupcake without frosting from his shop. Not to mention, you called for him 'akan (for uncle)' the moment we entered that alley and happily accepted the sweet treats.

During one of the play dates with Tiya-chan, you both were interested in watching some video on Nexus 7. Funnily, it was not a cartoon show.

You often picked up Papa's hair brushes while trying to imitate Papa's actions when he dressed up.

We used to visit the Muckypups activity class every Friday morning and it was good fun. When you got bored of someone or some place, you often started saying 'bye' with increasing frequency and volume. Those were very interesting moments for Mumma to deal with.

One of our Sunday regulars was the Fidgets indoor play area at MBS shopping mall.

The best was sliding with Papa.

Our visits were usually followed by dinner at Punjab Grill where you enjoyed munching aloo kulcha with butter paneer. Yes, you had a liking for delicious food.

Once when I went for my pedicure with you, we met a little girl who was the beautician's daughter. She wanted to paint your nails and we happily obliged.

When we went to Great World city mall for shopping, I got you a blue balloon to tie to your stroller. You often pointed at balloons when you noticed other children carrying them.

We went to Poulet French restaurant for a quick snack. You enjoyed eating bread with my mushroom soup.

I really liked your carefree sleeping pose during your afternoon nap. Absolute bliss.

Next was our regular weekly play dates with Samar. We mostly went to his condo Aspen Heights for play time and you both seemed to have fun. Sometimes together, sometimes separate. Samar's Grandma spent amazing time playing with you both. She taught you to stamp your feet left right left and you grasped it pretty well. When Grandma played 'ringa ringa roses...' with you both, you guys enjoyed it loads.

Around that time my back ache worsened and I was unable to take you out for your regular walks. It was Papa's turn and he ensured that you were well prepared to beat the heat. To our surprise you didn't take off the sunglasses for the major part of your walk and got looks from a lot of people. Oh what a fantastic little celebrity you looked. Still wonder how you learned to wear that 'I'm cool' look.

We went for your haircut at City Square Mall. You spent some time with Hello Kitty and then you cried hysterically during the cut. I anticipated it as your understanding of the surroundings was going up and you could suspect potential dangers to yourself.

After the haircut, shopping happily at Daiso with Tita. I loved to buy nick nacks, especially your travel cutlery from that everything $2 store. We shopped at Daiso in Tokyo too.

With your understanding your interest in bigger vehicles and machines grew. The digger was one of your great likings. You said digidigidigi when you spotted a digger. When I thought about it I felt that it was actually quite fascinating to see the digger work and enjoyed it with you.

When you spotted the curtains drawn you automatically went near to play peekaboo.

As you mastered walking it was time for some experimenting. Marching, jumping, gliding, running to name a few.

By that time, merely giving you the vacuum cleaner attachment was not enough. You wanted the main unit and made sure that the vacuum cleaner was turned on and made the jzzzz sound. Your angles and strokes were quite perfect.

You really adored my dance teacher Dr. Amrita and said 'daa daa' for dance. One of your favourites was the cheesy bollywood song 'Saree ke fall sa...' and you often asked me to play it on YouTube.

We also had regular play dates with Tiya chan who was my friend Mayuko-san's daughter. She was older than you by about 6 months and you both seemed to have fun.

Our Sundays were usually dedicated to the Marina Bay Sands mall followed by dinner at Punjab Grill.

We ended the month beautifully with a lovely dinner with Amrit Aunty (Sohail Chachu's mom). You were a bit apprehensive to dine with so many people in the beginning but soon found your comfort zone. You loved doing hi five with Aunty.

Mumma's back pain had not gotten better and I could not spend much time on the laptop. But this blog was my priority and I sneaked out time to put together the stories.

I'm hoping you'd enjoy and cherish those moments.

With diggers pouring out my love for you forever
Mumma
