May 2019

Dear Sweetheart Ceyone,

That was my birthday month. I was in Japan on my actual birthday and we celebrated in Singapore before I left. Life was full of excitement and weekends were packed with activities.

Your bey blade fever was on peak. I think you bought every single bey blade that was available in ToysRUs or online shopping via Lazada. Your friends would come searching for your collection and it was match time every single day. When you liked something you literally did a doctorate on it. You knew all about bey blades, their characters, strategies, mixing and more.

Writing classes were in full force!

We celebrated my birthday in one of the weekend writing classes. The cake was ginormous and brownie based.

When no one was around, Jaws and Paws enjoyed their quiet basking time on their new rock. I continued making my smoothies and we often drank carrot juice for your eyes.

Soon after I left for Tokyo for the onboarding of our new partner. We had a full week of training and I didn't even remember it was my birthday as I was so occupied with the entire program coming to fruition.

I realized that just like us a lot of families struggled on plans for Sunday dinner. The helpers have day off and usually people like to eat out. Why not eat together with friends then? I introduced once a month "Bachpan waala Sunday" (Sunday of my childhood) when we would go together as a group and enjoy a simple meal such as a dosa or chhole bhature at either MTR or a food court. We'd go by bus and you all had a good time chatting, mingling and experiencing.

I took Ahaan and you to Mint Museum of Toys one of the weekends. It was a simple place and you both like walking around. Some of the toys were really antique.

One of my senior colleagues, Jeanne visited from New York City and we took her out to experience Singapore. I also invited Jeanne to our home one Friday afternoon for a quick peek into how our household runs. I was always intrigued by how people live in different parts of the world and thought of sharing my experience with her.

I also got the opportunity to be on the panel for Motherhood Bias event at my office where I spoke about my own experience as a mother returning to work and how Twitter was a parent pro employer.

Weekend birthday parties continued.

As Tita was unwell and asked to go to the Philippines to rest, Naani came over to be with us and help us.

You participated in a play at school.

I intended to raise you in a free thinking world with basic values. I felt that enjoying the best of all religions and adopting the goodness from anywhere you found was the way to go. So when it was Eid time, we celebrated with seviyaan.

Every day was a good day with Naani around. You loved her potato sandwiches which even I did when she would pack them for me for my lunch. Together we strived to have household continuity for us.

Love you to the moon and back Ceyone!
Yours,
Mumma
